Production automation has brought many benefits. These days, more of something can be produced faster and cheaper than ever. One important factor in the process between raw materials, production and finished product in the customer's hands is logistics. The networking of stationary and mobile workplaces with the use of PC based technologies such as, for example, identification technology, is the key to optimum material flow control. These modern logistics processes entail, among others, the use of industrial touch panel PCs. The requirements to be met by a logistics and order picking mobile computer are, therefore, very special ones. Apart from compact design, great importance is attached to easiest operability and good readability of the display, as well as on uncomplicated connection of peripheral devices, or the simple integration in a WLAN network, or even in GSM/GPRS. In order to guarantee reliable operation, the industrial touch panel PCs must be able to withstand special, extreme conditions such as vibration, shock, dust or water.
